Navigation for pickup orders

The app builds a route straight to your pickup point, so orders leave the counter hot and on time.

A pickup order is the cheapest order you can take: no commission, no courier cost, just food and payment processing. Its weak point is the last five hundred meters — a customer circling the block looking for your entrance while the order cools on the counter. The Dots app closes that gap with built-in navigation to the pickup point.

How it works in the Dots app

The customer chooses pickup, picks a location — the nearest one is shown first — and sees when the order will be ready. One tap opens a route to the exact address in their maps app, walking or driving. Status notifications do the timing: a push fires when the kitchen marks the order ready, so the customer arrives when the food is hot instead of fifteen minutes early or twenty late. For chains, every location has its own point on the map, schedule, and menu — the app routes each order to the right one. And if the customer is running late, the order stays visible in the monitoring panel, so staff know which bags on the shelf still have an owner.

Why it moves money

The margin math first. On a $30 marketplace order you might keep $18–21 after commission and fees; the same $30 as a pickup order through your app keeps roughly $29 after processing. Every order this feature nudges from a paid channel into pickup is a direct margin gain — and removing friction is exactly how you nudge it. The wider playbook is in our guide to getting more direct orders.

Then the operational math. Orders collected on time do not queue on the counter, do not get remade because they went cold, and do not crowd the pickup shelf during rush. The ready-time push plus a route means customers arrive inside a narrow window you control.

Who benefits most

Coffee shops and grab-and-go concepts where pickup is the main mode; multi-location city brands whose customers do not know every address; and any spot with an entrance that is genuinely hard to find — courtyards, food halls, office buildings. If staff regularly give directions by phone, the app can do it instead.
